Colin grew up in the city of Los Angeles, where he developed a keen interest in numbers and a passion for helping others. After graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Education, Sports Management, and a minor in business administration, he started his career path in the sports industry, working for the NHL's Florida Panthers and the Arena Football League's Los Angeles Avengers. These experiences honed his skills in teamwork, strategy, and client service, laying the foundation for his future success.
In 2005, Colin made a shift in his career, joining ING Direct as a call center representative in Los Angeles. Here, he assisted clients with online savings accounts and mortgages, quickly proving his aptitude for financial matters. His natural talent for understanding and explaining complex financial concepts led him to the securities division, where he wholesaled ING Direct mutual fund offerings to a network of financial advisors. It was during this time that he met his wife, Melissa, in 2009. Together, they decided to move to her hometown of San Diego, where they were married in 2012.
Colin's journey in the financial industry continued to flourish. He earned his Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®) designation and obtained licenses 6, 7, and 63 (held with LPL Financial), along with a California insurance license. With over two decades of experience since he first joined the banking and investments industry, Colin uses a holistic approach to financial planning and is committed to financial education. He specializes in simplifying complex financial products while working with clients to ensure they understand the recommendations for their strategy. His favorite aspect of the job is helping clients plan for retirement and seeing those plans come to fruition.
One of Colin's core beliefs is that "you never lose a dollar until you sell." This philosophy guides his approach to investing and financial planning, emphasizing the importance of patience and strategic decision-making. His methodology involves providing comprehensive financial planning services striving to ensure all client needs are covered and addressed, from retirement planning to investment management.
Colin made a significant move to become an independent financial advisor. This decision was driven by his commitment to offer his clients quality products and services available in the marketplace and allows him the freedom to choose from hundreds of different investment providers, ensuring he can tailor the appropriate options for each client. The ability to use his experience to have more creative control in implementing and developing client recommendations is what excites him most about this new chapter.
When he's not working, Colin enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, traveling, and soaking up the sun at the beach. His son, Carter, brings endless joy to his life, and he is dedicated to spending time with his family. Colin's journey is a testament to his adaptability, dedication, and passion for helping others pursue their financial goals.
